Terms of Use

By accessing or using the Tilly chatbot platform (chatbot.tilburg.ai), you agree to the terms and conditions governing its use as set by Tilburg University.

Who can use Tilly

  • Tilly is for Tilburg University students, lecturers, researchers, and staff with a valid Tilburg University account.
  • You must keep your login details confidential and never share your account.

What you may use Tilly for

You may use Tilly to support your studies, teaching, research, and work, for example:

  • Drafting, editing, summarising, translating, or reviewing texts
  • Generating ideas, examples, and practice questions
  • Course- or project-specific chatbots created by lecturers or staff

Use must always follow:

  • Tilburg University regulations and policies, and
  • Any course / exam instructions about AI use (including AI Index levels).

What is not allowed

When using Tilly, you must not:

  • Cheat on exams or assignments, or otherwise violate academic integrity
  • Use Tilly where AI is not allowed for an assignment or exam (e.g. AI Index level "No AI")
  • Generate or share illegal, hateful, harassing, or defamatory content
  • Infringe copyright, confidentiality, or other people's rights
  • Try to hack, overload, or otherwise disrupt the system

You remain responsible for any content you enter and any content you share.

AI in education and exams

  • Lecturers decide if and how you may use Tilly (or other AI tools) per course or assignment.
  • The AI Index indicates the allowed level of AI assistance (e.g. "No AI", "editing only", "AI as co-pilot with reflection").
  • Unless explicitly allowed, you must not use Tilly during summative assessments (exams, graded assignments, take-home exams).

If you are unsure whether AI is allowed, you must ask your lecturer or examiner before using Tilly.

AI limitations & your responsibility

  • Tilly's answers are generated by AI and can be wrong, incomplete, biased, or outdated.
  • Tilly does not provide professional legal, medical, financial or other regulated advice.
  • Always check and critically evaluate outputs yourself and use other reliable sources.
  • You are fully responsible for how you use Tilly's outputs and for the work you submit.

Our responsibility

  • Tilly is provided "as is". We do not guarantee that it will always be available or error-free.
  • Tilburg University is not liable for decisions or outcomes based on Tilly's outputs, as far as the law allows.

Changes to Tilly and these terms

  • We may update Tilly or these Terms from time to time.
  • For important changes, we may notify you via your Tilburg University email and/or within the Platform.
  • If you continue using Tilly after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
